Two women made
the news due to their weird, strange and waayy overdone
obsession to hundreds of animals. Private animal autopsy
and deep frozen dogs.
A woman with 17 dogs in her home — two of them
dead in a freezer — was taken for mental health
evaluation. The 51-year-old woman told the police that
she froze the two dogs after they died because she could
not bear to part with them.
The woman also allegedly said she had performed an
at-home autopsy on one of the frozen dogs to
determine how the animal had died, hoping she could
prolong the lives of her other dogs.
"She has no malice whatsoever. She loves these animals.
She thinks they are like her children," Police reported.
Deputies said the stench of trash and dog feces in the
home was overwhelming.
"When the deputies arrived, the smell about knocked them
out. They couldn't even go into the house."
Thirteen surviving dogs were taken to an animal control
facility. Two others ran away.
A friend of the woman telephoned deputies after phone
calls to the woman went unanswered for a few days. The
woman, whose name wasn't released, was taken to a
Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health Unit for
evaluation.
Woman With More Than 100 Animals Arrested
A woman was arrested after authorities found more than
100 live dogs, cats, birds, goats and a duck in her
small, 3-bedroom house.
Officials say they also found 13 dead dogs wrapped in
towels in a freezer and refrigerator in Cynthia Walsh's
kitchen.
Walsh (56),was
arrested for investigation of animal cruelty after
sheriff's deputies and animal services officers went to
her home based on an anonymous complaint. She was
released on $6,010 bail.
Animal Services manager Eric Anderson described the
conditions in the house as "defying anything
imaginable." Deputies who entered the house wore
hazardous-material suits and oxygen masks
.
"Even through the mask, the smell was horrific, the
carpet was totally black and worn down — it looked like
a Brillo pad. It was bad." Deputies spent 10 hours
collecting the animals, which were taken to the county
animal shelter.
Officials said they did not know
where Walsh got the animals or how long she had been
keeping them. None had been adopted from Animal Services
in recent years. The dogs did not appear to be
malnourished but officials would have to examine them to
determine their medical conditions. |
